Welcome to Jeanne Marshall's Personal Web Page
I am graduating from
St. John’s University
in May 2003 with Dual Bachelor’s Degrees in Elementary Education K-6 and Special
Education K-12. I have always known that I wanted to be an educator. From my
first semester at St. John’s I was immersed in the field. I started with
service learning and observations in both elementary and special education
schools. My experience in Queens’ Public Schools, working with children from
diverse backgrounds, sparked an interest in me to travel and see more of the
world. I applied to the Study Abroad Program and decided to go to
Rome, Italy. During my semester there I traveled all around Europe, to big
cities and to little villages. Throughout my travels, I developed an
appreciation for different cultures while also gaining a greater appreciation
for my own culture. This semester in Italy was one of the most rewarding
experiences of my college career.
I have had the opportunity to Associate Teach for two semesters and to work with
students at diverse functional levels. While student teaching for my special
education certification at PS 177, I worked with autistic children between the
ages of 5-7 years old, and out of a desire for fuller exposure I visited other
autistic classrooms in which the students ranged up to the age of 21. I
subsequently worked with severely mentally disabled and Down’s Syndrome
adolescents. It took an enormous amount of patience but every little
breakthrough was worth its weight in gold. I have recently started my final
student teaching experience at PS 205. I am currently enjoying working with a
second grade class and as of March 10, I will be placed in an upper grade.
